Question:

What's Strong for a Girl?

I can lift 40 pounds above my head and do 25 lb single arm curls and I'm 5'6, 115. Is that good? I've been working out for a few months although I'm not that disciplined with it. How much do the rest of you girls lift?

    im also 5'6, 123pounds and my arms are freaking weak even though i used to be a runner and did core strength exercises weekly. 5kg on each hand feels very heavy for me already..

That's excellent!  Keep up the good work!  My girlfriend and I used to lift weights together before we started the whole yoga thing.  We were pretty arrogant (amongst ourselves--not out loud) about the wimpy weights other girls would use.  We always pushed ourselves and competed against each other to lift the heaviest weights or to increase in weights.  She was 5'4" and weighed 123 and could bench press her body weight, so 123 pounds!  That's pretty amazing for someone that small.  I weighed about 30 pounds more than she did and the most I ever bench pressed was 110, so she won by a landslide!

    Let me just say this about weight lifting...the girls we secretly made fun of had better muscle definition (in their arms) because they lifted lighter weights for more repetitions.  That's the way I would go now, if I got back into it.  Have fun at the gym and good luck!
