What's up with my computer?

Question

All the files i download exept for the .rar & .zip files, don't have 'Open' option. I mean when i right clicked my web browser it started with 'Send to' not with 'Open'. What should i do? It's because of a virus? :|

PS: I even installed a new windows xp cd on my computer & didn't work.

What are the file extensions of the problem files? What program are you downloading them with? And from where.... usenet / newsgroups, website?

Is the rest of your PC acting normal? What browser do you use?

Are these all the same kind of file, like pictures? Can you open files you did not download? More info would help.

their is high probability of virus or registry corruption.

but this is what you can do...please run a scan first then do this.

open "my computer " on top menu go to Tools> folder options>file types     here search for files with whom you do not see the "open" menu. If they are missing add them and also update them through the advanced tab.

The other method is to download a small proggy that would fix all file assosiations one by one (assuming you know extensions of all files that have been rendered useless)

download TweakUi a powertoy by microsoft and repair icons with it.

run sfc /scannow through command prompt to repair system files (needs XP cd)

also try and repair registry using recovery console. Refer microsoft kB for that.
