What Ampilifier do you recommend?

I have:

(2) 12" MTX Thunders

they feature:

Power Handling: 900 Watts (Pair)

Power Handling: 450 Watts (RMS Pair)

Power Handling (RMS): 225 Watts (Each)

4 Ohm

I'm not a 17yr old bass pounding fiend so these subs are enough for me. But I'd like the right amp to push them.

I currently have a cheap-o 4 channel 600w Amp w/ built-in x-over that keeps overheating. (Should I keep the x-overs off?) Anyway.... I'd like another one.

Any suggestions on size, channel, and brand?

Unless you can give me advice on how to use the amp I already have in a better way...

  1. http://www.xtant.com   By far the cleanest power for the fullest range of audiophiles!  Built in X-overs are horrible!  Bypass them if you can.  Use multiple amps at different wattages to handle different pairs of speakers.  Bridge or mono the woofers.  Be sure to include each pair of speakers with their own individual x-over and filter.  Your 600w 4 channel would be best served as a 2 channel to drive the bass to your woofers, IF your amp is decent.  The cross-overs are causing too much resistance, therefore causing your amp to click off.   Leave them "off".   Look into a bigger alternator and run the appropriate gauge wiring and NO TWISTING connections.  Use blocks and proper connectors.

One great piece of advice.  Your car should run and stop better than your stereo does.  Make sure you spend more on the maintenance and performance of your vehicle before you sink all the cash  into the radio.  No fun broke-down in the drive-way with an extension cord running to your awesome stereo.

  2. 500wath mtx, pioner, albine or kenwood don buy jensen or jvc

  3. Any mono amp that's CEA-2006 compliant that's 450 watts RMS @ 2 ohm with the subs wired parallel.
