What Plants around a pond?

I have a pond and i want to put some plants around it, planted in soil not in the pond. What sort can i use that will be ok to grow into the water and not contaminate the water? Any help will be great cheers

  1. Water irises are great round a pond. Pickerel weed looks nice, too.  


  2. "contaminate" the pond?  I don't understand what your fear is there.

    In any case, plant whatever you like next to your pond.  I have black-eyed susans, irises, butterflyweed, cardinal flower (lobelia), and a japanese maple next to my pond.

    If the area next to your pond gets frequent floods (not the case near my pond), then just make sure you don't pick plants that don't like "wet feet".
