  1. I have no idea.  I haven't seen any Israelis in Morocco and don't even know if diplomatic relationships exist.

Morocco is a U.S. ally in NATO and is home to a large and growing American and European population.  It's a peaceful and pleasant place.  So I imagine it would be welcoming to most people.

  2. Between governments currently I don't know.

Moroccan people appear to be discontent with their country and want to escape similar to what's happening in Russia.

Jewish people of Moroccan descent now living in Israel appear to be thriving:  http://youtube.com/watch?v=okP6tAKXheI

Morocco was not kind to Jews in fact it was opposite.  Why I keep hearing that Morocco was kind I don't know perhaps it was propaganda push because Morocco wanted its Jewish population back. Morocco has not fared well after Jewish population left. Morocco was far from being kind at any time during the course of history.

Here is a list of some of the atrocities Morocco did to Jewish people, but a complete list can be found from the link provided:

MOROCCO: 1790 – Pogrom in Tetouan: All Jews stripped naked, many women raped, most homes ransacked.

1815 – Jews of Mogador ordered to pay sudden jizya poll-tax. Those who pay punched on the forehead after turning over coins, those who refuse thrown in dungeon.

1834 – "Suleika affair": Jewish woman from Tangier refuses to convert and marry a high-ranking official. She is executed in Fez.

1884-1888 – 307 Jews murdered over four years by Muslims, yet no Muslims put on trial.

1948 – Jewish Population approximately 285,000. Israel established. French officials ban aliyah of Moroccan Jews to Israel. Muslim riots in Oudjda and Djerada kill scores of Jews, wound 150.

1956-1961 – 18,000 Jews smuggled out of Morocco.

1957 – Exit visas for Jews abolished.

1958 – Morocco joins Arab League, forbids any Jewish emigration. Number of Jewish officials in government deliberately decreased. All Zionist activity forbidden.

1960 – Many Jewish schools nationalized.

1961 – On the occasion of Egyptian President Nasser’s visits Casablanca, Jews beaten and arrested.

1961-1964 – 80,000 Jews leave on chartered planes and ships in return for "compensation" to Moroccan government from Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society.

2000 – 6,000 Jews remain in Morocco; an estimated 600,000 Moroccan Jews and their descendants live in Israel.

2003 – Jewish community center in Casablanca bombed as part of an Al Qaeda attack.

  3. Although no open hostility exists, Morocco, like most countries that have a Muslim majority, maintains rather cold relations with Israel.

Jews have lived peaceably in Morocco for centuries since the diaspora of Jews in the fourth century.  They became a facet of the culture of Morocco and were treated better than they were in predominantly Christian countries.  However, the wars in Israel that began in 1968, prompted the evacuation of a significant proportion of the Moroccan Jews.  Hence, few remain.  This circumstance would appear to indicate that is Israeli-Moroccan relationship is not warm or cordial.

I hope you get answers from Morocco for more up to date and definitive information.

  4. There are hundreds of thousands of ex-Moroccan Jews http://www.theforgottenrefugees.com/inde... and their descendants living in Israel. This fact impacts the ongoing attempts to strengthen ties between the 2 countries.

In 1994, Morocco began to normalize relations with Israel, but was forced to back away due to threats by Arab countries. Morocco shut down the Israeli diplomatic mission offices in its country in October 2000 and suspended relations with Israel. Nevertheless, there are relations between the two countries on a few levels. There is active cooperation between agronomists and desert agriculture researchers from both countries.

Moroccan university students are able to study in Israel, usually in graduate degree programs.

There are many examples of quiet ongoing diplomacy.

Separately, there is also specific interest in relations with Israel expressed by the Berber (Amazigh) minority. Here's a revealing debate in which Ahmed Adghirni, Sec'y General of the Moroccan Amazigh Democratic Party notes: "The Arabs replace friendship with enmity and war." http://www.memritv.org/clip/en/1518.htm

  5. They have good relations and trade with each other. But like Qatar to protect themselves from getting kicked out of Muslim and Arab organizations, they officially do not recognize Israel.

  6. I don't think Israel has a relationship with any Arab country including Morocco
