  1. If your horse has wind puffs (or gets stocked up after work or whatever), this is the BEST stuff I have ever used on my mare. She was stocked up for a week and I wrapped and moved her around and used liniments and everything I could, but nothing would work. I wrapped her up with this stuff one night, and the next day it was gone! Absolutely amazing - I swear by it!!

It's called "Stocking Up" and here is the website: (They also have other great horse rubs):

  2. wind puff is a very serious condition, it does not just happen in older horses either, my friend's 3 year old breeder stock has it on one foot and it is simply a swelling in the fetlock joint that will NEVER go away, it is caused from excessively working a young horse or or excessively working a horse that has stood in a stall for a long time...

  3. Windpuffs are a swelling in the fetlock and

pastern areas caused by fluid buildup in the soft tissues....i.e. edema.

It is often caused by standing in a stall with little or no exercise...and very often the swelling will go down after exercise or working out.  However, this does not always bring down the swelling as we have a horse in our barn with chronic windpuffs..they do go down a little or sometimes not.  We've used DMSO and tried sweating it out.  This is also a rescue horse that does have some scarring in that area so it could also be due to an injury...perhaps water retention..we just haven't been able to figure out 100% what the cause or exact treatment is with this guy.  But he is perfectly sound!!

    Hope this helped!!

I have windpuffs right now in my ankles...I have no ankles..I look like a tree trunk!! Can't figure out why I get them either!!  I know TMI--too much info!!

  4. Wind puffs or wind galls are the soft "spongy" swellings around the back, front and or side of the fetlock joint.  The inflamed joint capsule  distends with additional synovial fluid in an effort to protect against injury.

Wind puffs or wind galls happen when a horse is subjected to a LOT of concussion such as hard ground or pavement.  Think trotting and such on the road.  They can also be caused by trailering and other outside causes.

The are not an unsoundness but they are a blemish (Think of it as a scar.).

  5. They are small swellings on the legs that are basicly incurable, older horses get them.

  6. i dunno but i like cheese puffs

  7. Rosie got it spot on!  The main thing that she said that is the most important is that it can be permanent, is a blemish, not an unsoundness.
