What are brightest LEDs available

Question

I would like to build some underwater lights that are as bright as possible, without drawing too much power. The colour of the light needs to be suitable for a video camera. Any suggestions?

You might want to check into the Luxeon line of led emmiters. These are specialized though; they require a small amount of circuitry but the output is much higher than conventional LEDs. Better LED flashlights use these instead of grouping a bunch of normal LEDs.

You could just buy a scuba light:

It would work great and would be much more reliable than a homemade light.  Waterproofing electronics is VERY tricky.
