  1. The mid ocean ridges are places where the Earth's crust is being pushed apart by new material, magma, welling up from inside the Earth.  They form a mountainlike ridge and at some places (Iceland) break the surface of the sea.


  2. They're formed at a divergent plate boundary, the two plates move apart and new material will fill the void, creating a ridge.
