  1. The nature of science is that is a persuit of knowledge by Man in order to explain and better understand the reason for observed phenomena. (It might be claimed that we are enquiring into the mind of the Creator by this means.) We do this not only to have and to accumulate the knowledge and thus to satisfy our curiosity and increase our pride in "knowing for sure" (not that we actually do achieve it, but it is the excuse for science!), but to eventually be able to make use of the knowledge. This is by engineering the naturally occurring things into forms that meet our material needs and satisfy our physical desires.

The scientific process is based on having sufficient a concept of a natural occurance, as to be able to describe it and to think about it. This process is then extended by the design and observation of a crucial experiment, which will either confirm or reject the preceeding theory. If the theory is shown to be roughly correct and the experimental errors due to the need to observe the result are seen to be not significant, then our knowledge about nature is increased. However it is only when this is seen to be only partly true or unconfirmed, that our science can of necessity take a step forward, by the proposal of a better theory which in turn requires a critical test to be made.

  2. Science is an organized approach to solving problems and answering questions.

Steps of the Scientific Method describe this organized approach.

    Ask a Question

    Do Background Research

    Construct a Hypothesis

Test Your Hypothesis by Doing an Experiment

    Analyze Your Data

    Draw a Conclusion

    Communicate Your Results

Another way that one could characterize Science is thus:

Science is the concerted human effort to understand, or to understand better, the history of the natural world and how the natural world works, with observable physical evidence as the basis of that understanding. It is done through observation of natural phenomena, and/or through experimentation that tries to simulate natural processes under controlled conditions.
