What are strides in mathmatic?

There is this one question on my work and it says strides for length and width help please n thanks

  1. Strides is the width (or length) of one of the steps taken when you walk. It used to be a unit of measure back in the day before rulers and tape measures (and standards of measurement like feet or meters) existed.

    It was assumed that most adult strides are the same. Obviously not true (someone with long legs will take a longer stride than someone with short legs).
