If you wanna try out for the cheer or the pom-dance team at a community college? (It's not really hard to get in) I'm 18 years old and really uncoordinated and ungraceful, and had a hard time in my jazz dance class last spring semester, and I've heard that ballet is the foundation for all dance styles...if I take it, will it help me with other dance styles? Oh and I'm not looking to go professional...will it help me get toned and flexible? Will it prepare me for cheer or pom-dance? Why should someone take ballet before taking another dance style like jazz, modern, lyrical, etc.? I'd love to know as much as I can so I can sign up for the ballet class at school!

  3. ballet is like the center of anythin dance. it will give you flexiblity. it will give you ballance and grace. it will help you with any other type of dance. ballet is like the foundation of dance. i think all dance originated from ballet but i cant back that up :). i've been dancing ballet for 9 years. this year i decided to take unlimited dancing at my dance studio. they do tons of different types of dances. so when i started dancing, it came waaaay easier to me then all the other girls. yes i had a little bit of trouble since it was a different type of dance but it was easier to learn since i had done ballet. i think you should take ballet. it will definately help you with your pom-dance. as long as you put your mind to it, you'll do great! there are many other benefits to ballet but it would take forever to tell you. so i would say that you should take ballet. hope this helped!

  4. Well cheer and pom-pom isnt really dance but I guess that would be cheerleading.Ballet helps with grace, cordiantion, flexibility , posture and movementso maybe it would help. It is the backbone of all dance. You should start with ballet because it is incorporated into all parts of dance.

    Good Luck!
