  1. First the Bryophytes (mosses) with no vascular conduction,

Second are the ferns and horsetails with limited vascularity

Third are the conifers (Gymnosperms) that are vascular.

Fourth are the Angiosperms or flowering plants

  2. Check out this link for major differences in the major groups of plants.

    http://oak.cats.ohiou.edu/~braselto/read...

    Bryophytes:  non-vascular

Ferns and related groups:  vascular, non-seed

Gymnosperms:  non-flowering seed plants, vascular, "naked" seed, no-fruit

Angiosperms: flowering plants, vascular, seed, fruit

  3. There are as many as ten (depending on the source) major divisions of plants:

    http://www.ucmp.berkeley.edu/help/index/...

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant

If you really must stick with only four, then most experts would likely offer (as the dominant groups):

    Bryophytes

    Pteridophytes (ferns, horsetails, club mosses)

    Gymnosperms (Conifers and others)

    Angiosperms

But it should noted that this scheme glosses over some important groups (e.g., the cycads & the gnetophytes).
