What are the purposes of science?

we had to answer this question and so far i can't seem to summarize it in one sentence. My teacher is asking about general science not any specific type like biology or chemistry i guess. help please? thanks a lot!

Science is the effort to question and discover processes in the physical world.

Fun fact: Science in Latin means "knowledge".
