imperceptibly - gradual, not perceptible.  Metaphysical speculation about imperceptibility is fruitless

Pulverize - to reduce to dust, to crush.  He pulverized the stone under his foot

Melancholy - gloomy state of mind, pensiveness. When he found out about his dog he came across all melancholy

Capillary - strand of hair, tube with small bore i.e. his capillaries are blocked due to fatty foods

Multifaceted - many aspects, many facets i.e. it was a multifaceted problem

Ballistics - study of motion of projectiles like bullets i.e. the CSI team had figured out that ballistics could solve the murder
