I would like to know what cage to get for my syrian hamster. He/she will be a teddy bear hamster. I would like one from petsmart but if you cannot find one i can go to pet supplies plus or petco. I want a PERFECT cage for my hamster cause i will love him/her and care for his/her needs. Please try to give me cages that are almost perfect and please include the price if possible. Please give me details on why you like the cage. If you are short on time PLEASE just give me a cage that you like. I have recently asked a similar question but it is VERY important for me to have the best cage possible. I would like to keep it under $30, but if not possible I can go to $50 MAYBE a little higher.

Thank You! Go ahead and answer even if you are not sure.... i need all the info i can get.

PS if you have facts that are interesting about Syrian hamsters please tell me..... i have already done a lot of research.

  1. I prefer a 5 gallon aquarium tank with a screen top. It ranges anywhere from 10- 20 dollars. Although you would also have to buy an exercise wheel, water bottle, ceramic food dish, and hut to go inside the cage, this tank is  the best you can get. It is escape proof and easy to clean, and allows plenty of room for the little fur ball!

  2. For my panda bear, I got a 20 gallon long aquarium, she loves it! Instead of a 20 gallon they have long ones at pet smart. It has room for her to run around and play t was 25$ I got a 5$ off coupon and the screen cover was 15$.  All together with food, toys, bedding, the cage, the hamster, hideouts and things was about 100$.

For int resting facts, a great wheel for it is the rodent wheel sr. I just got it today, it's 11".  Also get it lots of things to do in it's cage and it will be more friendly to you.  Also when you buy it hold the hamster and make sure it's friendly, and the other hamsters are healthy.  Also do not choose one for color, but for personality.

Here is the Wodent wheel link

it's the only ASAP approved wheel, and it's solid!

Please take into consideration what I've told you and a 5 gallon tank is not large enough, a 10 gallon is not large enough either.

  3. I have two teddy bear hamsters and the one thats in the aquarium works the best.  The one in the Hartz play city is always trying to chew on the bars and drives me crazy at night if I forget to move his cage to the guest room. I just got the two I have now from a pet store a week ago and they were already grown and I can't handle them unless I wear gloves.  When I was a kid and had them I got them really young and and had no problem picking them up and playing with them any time I wanted.  Females do get nippy if they are pregnant though.  If petsmart doesn't have any real young ones I would wait and try to get them young.  I'm finding it difficult to get mine tamed down.  I got a 10 gallon aquarium at Wal-Mart for $10.97.  I don't have a top for mine yet, she's not able to even get close to climbing out so I'm not in a hurry to get it and don't know how much they cost since Wal-Mart didn't have any of those.  I'm sure petsmart does though.

  4. Get an aquarium style critter cage. They can cost between $10 and up including the critter lid, depending on size. The bigger the better. They are very secure, keep your pet the safest, and are very easy to clean. Also because the walls are glass there will be nothing falling out the sides. There will be less noise to deal with at night as most hamsters chew the bars on bird cage style houses. Plastic houses are also a bad idea unless you want to go looking for your escaped pet. Hamsters can chew through all plastic, it's just a matter of time. Also plastic gets scratched and the scratches hold dirt and infectious matter. Bedding in important with an aquarium. Wood chips can be too dusty. We use corncob bedding with a cotton nest.

Always add rodent vitamins to the water you give the pet, at exactly the recommended dose, too much liquid vitamins can dehydrate the pet and make it sick.

So many good ones at petsmart for a great price! Good luck, I'm jealous :)

  6. Get an aquarium, so your pet can have a roomy place to live.

Don't buy the CritterTrail, they are cute but too little for hamsters!
