I have a roadrunner that has decided to come up on my deck every day and look throught the window at me like he is starving/thirsty. If I open the door he stays for a few minutes then flies to a tree nearby. Is this strange behavior for this bird? Should I try to feed it? Water it? (Poor thing is panting a lot) If so, what do you feed a roadrunner?

  1. I would put out a bowl of water and also wild bird seed.

  2. Roadrunners eat small animals such as lizards, snakes, insects, scorpions and similar things.  If you wanted to offer it something, a small amount of mealworms might attract it.  You can usually get mealworms and crickets from bait shops.  The crickets would just hop away so mealworms would be your best option.  You can put a container of water out for it as well.  It may be seeing its own reflection in the glass of a door or window.
