Question:

What car should he buy?

I know a 15 year old and he really can't choose what car he wants except for one, the Toyota Prius because he says it's a hybrid and gets really good gas mileage. Really what he's looking for is a small car that gets good mileage and is affordable, but it seems that the Prius suffers in that area. Would this still be a solid choice? Please be specific.

  1. The Market is open for something like that.  Honestly, It doesn't really pay to buy a Hybrid.  You spend like a 5-15 thousand dollar premium.  Five thousand dollars can buy alot of gas.

Buick Park Avenue, LeSabre, Century, Regal

    Chevrolet Cobalt, Malibu, Impala

    Pontiac G6, Grand Prix, G5

    Ford Focus

    The Majority of Saturn's lineup.

Depending upon what options you want, your options are virtually limitless.  All the cars I've listed are capable of getting 30+ MPG.

  2. i think a prius is a very nice car but shouldnt be bought by a  15 year old because its very expensive. he can try other good affordable cars like a yaris a echo and like a tercel they get very good gas milage and are very affordable cars

  3. For half the price or less than any used Prius, he could get a mid 90's Honda Civic VX or HX.  That was the economy model that got close to 40mpg on the highway.  I think that's close enough and so much cheaper.

  4. Some of the older, smaller cars get as great mileage as the Prius. The Prius' premium is too much to really consider it a solid savings. Check out some of the older pre-2000 Hondas Civics, Toyota Tercel, Corolla, Geo Metro or the Volkswagen Golf TDI (diesel with GREAT mileage).

Plus, they are all cheaper than the Prius.

  5. Id buy American, if people keep buying these Asian S**t box cars the U.S economy will only get worse

  6. heck, for half the price he could buy a new yaris which will get most of the prius gas mileage while leaving a far smaller overall environmental foot print b/c of manufacture and recycle differences.

  7. Get a Civic or Corolla Sedan and save $5-$10k...

And you won't be helping the American economy by buying some inferior  Canadian, Chinese, or Mexican made Ford, GM, or Chrysler $h!t box car.
