What causes some people to think?

Why can't all citizens just believe what is spoken by leaders?

I agree with Jan!!!  I hope that nobody actually believes that "The Powers That Be" provide us with the unabashed truth.

i wouldn't say that people should listen to their leaders, thats what a democracy is. i mean yes, listen to what they have to say, but feel free to think on your own. Taking our right of free choice is pretty much taking our right to breathe.

and i believe the reason people become leaders because they voiced their own opinion against what one leader has said.

It has alot to do with where you fall in Maslows hierarchy of needs. See, if your still down at Physiological needs,

these are the basic animal needs. You don't care so much who is in charge, as you do , where dinner is comming from.

When you get up around  Esteem needs. You might start to actually listen to those in charge and form opinions of your own.

If you reach  Self-actualization think you start thinking about being the people in charge.

Because most leaders are only propagating their own agenda.  I'd rather think for myself.

Because as humans, we all have different opinions. Society can't cope with just one way of thinking. That is why we give so many things meaning. For example, the book 1984, where everyone was supposed to follow one train of thought, but every now and then, someone would get curious and break the rules.

I like to be able to use my imagination, to solve complex problems without the assistance of a know it all. I am an independent thinker and do not follow the word of anyone. Being independent though can get you treated as an outcast quite often.

Leaders, today's politicians are manipulative. They tell their people what they think they want to hear and many people flock like sheep to believing it all.

Not me.
