Question:

What could be wrong with me?

I am diagnosed at bipolar and general anxiety disorder, and am medicated for both problems. I take Topomax, Cymbalta, BuSpar, and Effexor.

For quite a while, it feels like I've been having obsessive type thoughts, especially when it comes to numbers. For example, when I'm playing a game it really bothers me if I have to turn it off if the final score doesn't end on a zero or five.

I've also noticed whenever I get really nervous, whether it be at home or out in public I feel like my itching arms, or rubbing my face. Even as I write this I'm having to do this! It's so ridiculous.

What is wrong with me?

  1. Based on the information you submitted, there could be several things going on.  One, your medication could be interacting with each other, producing side effects which simulate Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).  Or you could also have OCD.  I would strongly suggest that you educate yourself about your diagnoses, treatment options, drug options and potential interactions, and efficacy of treatment.  Please keep in mind that just because you have been diagnosed with these mental health disorders, there is nothing "wrong" with you.  You need to educate yourself about your diagnoses, and advocate for yourself.

Please discuss this with the doctor prescribing your medication.

    Good luck!

  2. It sounds like you are totally crackers

  3. I may be grasping at straws here, but is it possibly a side effect of one of your meds? My hubby takes several meds for the treatment of bipolar, and I have noticed he seems to have muscle tics and he complains of having a creepy-crawly sensation in his arms and legs. That may explain the itching thing. I think it is something that warrants a visit to your psychiatrist for sure.

  4. You really really need to talk to your doctor, but my mom is bipolar and is on Effexor and one symptom is she is OCD with certain things like you with numbers. It's just what the meds do to you. But about the arms it might be a nervous tick caused by the meds so tell your doctor. He/She might recommend putting you on a different prescription.

  5. I don't understand why cant you discuss this problem with your doctor

  6. No one on this site is going to be able to help you, you need to talk to your doctor or a shrink before you do yourself some damage

    Good luck

  7. With all that so called medication rubbish you are taking ,it`s no wonder, throw all that trash away and get on with a normal life. Geez, next , you will be thinking your a fox terrier and barking and chasing jackrabbits,or trying to fly to the moon.
