  1. kick ***

  2. Rangers are the Army's shock troops - their primary objective is to assualt and hold critical ground like air fields or ports until regular troops can arrive to reinforce.

RIP is the Ranger Indoctrination Program - it is for soldiers who are trying to join a Ranger BN.  It differs from the Pre-Ranger school which is used to prepare you for ranger school in that it is used to see if you are able to handle being assinged to a Ranger BN.  Just having completed ranger school doesn't mean you can be assigned to a Ranger BN.

  3. Rangers are elite Airborne infantry that specialize in short notice, show of force, raids, and direct assaults on targeted objectives. They along with the 82nd are the primary first strike and rapid response units in the US, deployable within 18 hours to anywhere on earth.

RIP used to be the Ranger Indoctrination Program. You basically were vetted through torture, harassment and physical exhaustion until your superiors felt sure you were Ranger material, worthy of attending Ranger School.

Now RIP is nothing but a preparatory program to get you ready.
