  1. Madsnakeman's absolutely right, "black snake" can also be an indigo. If it's a black rat snake it's a rodent eater, if it's a black racer it's opportunistic, everything from lizards to mice to birds, other snakes, frogs, anything it can catch. The same goes for indigos, but heavy on the other snakes, and illegal to touch, much less take from the wild as a pet.

  2. There is no snake called a black snake. There are black rat snakes, black racers, black kingsnakes, and many more which are black something, but no black snake. If you're in the eastern U.S., you may be talking about black rat snakes, which are very common and grow to around 6 feet in length. They eat rodents, birds, and bird eggs. Another common one in the eastern U.S. is a black racer, again, very common and they grow to around 4 feet or so. They eat anything, such as rodents, birds, eggs, snakes, lizards, frogs, and grasshoppers. Most snakes are rodent eaters, but there are dark colored water snakes, which eat fish and frogs.

  3. black racers?mabey little mice or like big crickets and stuff??i really dont know its a guess ok.

  4. Rat snakes are primarily known as rodent eaters, however other food preferences do exist. As juveniles, rat snakes eat small lizards, baby mice, and an occasional small frog. Adult rat snakes have a diet mainly consisting of mice and rats, but also include chipmunks, moles, and other small rodents. Adults also eat bird eggs and young. Rat snakes kill their prey by constriction.

  5. feed him pinkies or small mice

  6. humans dumb ***

  7. mostly mice + other small rodents; seasonally, they'll take eggs or chicks before they are fully-flighted.

it's a small price to pay, to have excellent rodent-control from a fairly-docile species, IMO. they are known as 'the farmer's friend' b/c of their wonderful mouse- and rat-hunting skills.

they are territorial, will ward off venomous species, and are quite nice to have about.
