  1. Clubs: What do you want to spend? Go to a proshop and try them all out to se what you like.

Balls: Golf.com has a nice ball selector tool

    Bag: Carry or Cart.

A copy of the USGA rules.

  2. Don't listen to him^^^ you can't really practice at night.  I you want help go to a golf only forum like Golfrewind.com  it's a great site with a lot of helpful people.  You can go to USGA.org for the official rules or buy a rulebook.  A great beginners book is Golfing for Dummies, I've been golfing for years and it helped me with a lot of stuff I was unsure about and it has some great exercises and practice routines.

  3. Patience

  4. just go to a public course that doesn't require a stiff dress code....dont buy the nice brand name things until you know your FULLY committed. its an expensive sport

  5. subscribe to Golf Digest. They have equipment info, style, top courses, top teachers, inspiring stories, rules, techniques, etc. you will love it. it will get you started and basically guide you to what you have to do! good luck, I'll look for you in the PGA.

  6. If you are truly serious about it, I suggest getting fitted for a set of clubs. One of the worst things you can do when just learning is play with clubs that don't fit you.  It will teach you bad habits that you will have to fix later.

The rules are fairly simple, but have a lot of nuance.  I recommend a rule book to take with you when you play.  You won't actually learn most of the rules from reading the book, though, you will learn the most by playing with people who know the rules.

Some places you play will have dress codes, so you might want to check them out before you go.  Other public courses are much more lenient, however, and don't require any particular attire.  I have switched back and forth with gloves, wearing them and not wearing them...now I usually just use them for shots when I'm going to be swinging harder.  Any pair of golf shoes will do pretty much, they aren't too difficult to find.

If you want to read a book to learn, Tiger Wood's book is pretty good for a beginner, and his writing style is very inclusive.  Some of your style may be different, but you can find a lot of good tips.

Above all, however, the most important thing is Practice, Practice, Practice!

Good luck, and welcome to the game.
