  1. A vendor is a company or representative for a company who asks another company to sell their items.

At Alberson's food stores there is an aisle with gift items.  Those items are not owned by Alberson's they're owned by another company who has convinced Albertson's to carry and sell their items.  That company is a vendor.

Another example is a hospital that gives you Colgate toothpaste while you're staying there.  The hospital obviously does not make or own Colgate, they just sell the toothpaste.  Colgate is their Vendor.

  2. A vendor is someone you buy products from for your store. For instance for a convenience store it could be Pepsi, Coca Cola, Frito Lay, Dolly Madison ... etc. They are all vendors.
