How is it compared to Toronto and other Canadian cities?

I lived in Calgary for 12 years (left 2 years ago), it used to be MUCH nicer than it is now. Since the job boom started about 4 years ago it is so busy and not as friendly as it used to be. The roads are really congested, and housing is insanely expensive (although if you're from Toronto or Vancouver it probably doesn't seem that bad). It used to have a reputation as a friendly city, but that just isn't the case any longer, people working in retail are just as rude as other big cities. The other thing you may notice if you're from Vancouver or Toronto is that Calgary is still quite conservative in it's views - if you look or act different it isn't well tolerated. It's like Calgary wants to be a big city but doesn't have the proper attitude yet.

Having said all that - I do miss the restaurants!
