Muslims fast in the month of Ramadan, they stop eating or drinking from dawn to dusk, in order to feel the suffering of the poor , they are expected to stop harming others or doing an evil thing , in addition to fasting , almsgiving and helping poor people is very common , it is a time for them to reassure their commitmet to God and doing good , what do u think of that .

  1. I think a better idea would be to give food to the poor and hungry all year long and stop doing harm or evil things to others period.

  2. iam muslim and i can't tell u how much iam soooooooooooooooooooo happy because ramdan came , it is such a great month by alllllllllllllll meaning, thank God~ may Allah accept us in it.

  3. Not much.  Should I think anything of it?

Good way to shed those unwanted 10 lbs. thou

  4. Noble intentions for one month of the year don't make up for supporting terrorism and rejoicing at the deaths of others for the remaining eleven months

  5. that's hilarious.  i wish they would commit to stop harming others the rest of the year.

  6. I think it's a religious ritual of Islam, although not nearly as stringent as some religions.  And I know that the godly Muslim merchants raise the prices of fruits and vegetables during that month, to show how much sympathy they have with the poor.  That's how Osama bin Laden got such a strong foothold in the Middle East and Northern Africa.  He went in and gave food to the poor instead of letting the merchants hold them hostage.  You ned to get your merchants to follow the law as well as the common Muslim.

  7. I think it's as much a religious tradition as any other religious tradition, and so it's kinda mechanical. Its not spontaneously coming from a person's heart, and for that reason, I don't think fasting and giving to the poor does any good. If a person breaks away from religion but wants to know why he exists and what the purpose of life is, then fasting would do some good, but giving to the poor just adds to a person's karma which keeps them stuck in illusion. I donate money to the needy when I have money, anyway, even though I feel it keeps me and the needy person stuck with karma so that we would have to reincarnate and reverse roles which just causes more suffering. Every time you have to take a body you invariably will suffer for having it.

  8. I think that is not good for anyone not to eat or during in the whole day because the body suffers for it. There are better ways to think of the poor and it is constantly during the whole year, being charitable is one of them or giving services to the ones whom need it.

  9. Rituals do not make people good, even if they are rituals of abstinence. They do, however, give people the pretence of being good. And this is very, very bad. Lent is just the same.

    Self righteousness makes people worse.

  10. You don't feel the suffering of the poor.  The poor go to bed hungry and Muslims know they will eat when the sun goes down.  No offense but that's NOT fasting.

Jesus told us to fast the same way that we pray, without boasting and bragging, privately so that God will reward us openly.  People don't know when I or other Christians fast so obviously Ramadan is not from God, just from allah.  Besides God wants us to do good during all 12 months, not just one.

    Matthew 6:16-18

Moreover when ye fast, be not, as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear unto men to fast. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.  But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thine head, and wash thy face; That thou appear not unto men to fast, but unto thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father, which seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly.

  11. Food is great.
