What do you think of Zuma?

Gwen Stefani just had her second child and apparently the baby's name is Zuma.

s*x is not confirmed yet, but I'm pretty sure that this is a girls' name. My name book says it's a form of Zumaya, which means "barn owl". Eek.

I don't hate is completely, but as far as Z names go, I'd much prefer Zola.

    ORIGIN AND HISTORY

The origin of the name Zuma is unclear. There are several possibilities.

Zuma is a clan name from the Zulu tribe of Africa.[1]

Zuma may be a variation of the Arabic name Zulema, which derives from Salome or Solomon, both of which mean "peace."[2] Zulema and its shortened forms can also mean "healthy" and "full of life." [3]

Zuma may mean "new day" or "solution" in the ancient Mayan language.[4]

Zuma may be related to the name Moctezuma, which means "he frowns like a lord" in the Classical Nahuatl language spoken by the Aztecs. Moctezuma I and Moctezuma II were ancient Aztec emperors.[5] A similar name, Montezuma, was the name of a mythological hero in the area that is now the Southwestern United States.[6]

Zuma means "running horse" in Japanese.[7]

    POPULARITY

In the United States, Zuma is an uncommon name. It has not appeared in the top 1000 most popular names list in any recorded year.[8] However, with the recent appearance of Gwen Stephani and Gavin Rossdale's new baby named Zuma, usage of the name could possibly increase.

Zuma is more often found as a company name, often associated with Japanese cuisine.

    FACTS

Zuma is the name of a market in the capital city of Madagascar, reputed to be the second largest market in the world.[9]

HOW COOL GWEN IS SO RAD!

  8. NO.

  9. Tell me about it, I prefer Zola (for a girl) too but.. I don't know why celebrities name their children weird names.

  10. reminds me of Montezumas revenge which is diarrhea.

  11. I think the child will hate his name with a passion. The kids in school will tease him unmercifully and he will definitely want to change it for the business world or any employment he gains.

  12. I thought ZUMA was a Yahoo Game?

  13. I feel bad for the kid, too, but there's a lot of people in the world with different names, so I'm not going to criticize Gwen for it. It happens a lot. And maybe in some distant country, Zuma means "chosen one" or something! Haha!
