  1. its a great place!! so much to do!!

  2. I answered your duplicate question, too, but to respond to Melissa S:

Yes, unfortunately there are a lot of uneducated people here in Indiana.  Most of the jobs are in agriculture and manufacturing.  However there are software companies, engineering firms, and a very large life sciences (i.e. development of drugs and medical devices) industry here as well.

I'm sorry you felt unsafe when lost in Indianapolis.  I find that a little strange - I feel that it is a very safe city, and am at least reasonably comfortable walking alone downtown after dark.

I've never been to Gary, aside from driving through it on the freeway, so I can't comment on that.

All in all, it's a decent place to live, but I'm ready for a change of scenery once my wife finishes her Ph.D.

  3. its not so bad..  indeed we do have our fair share of uneducated white trash.. but thats only because we share a border with Michigan.. ha! Just kidding. but so true.

  4. I've lived here(indianapolis) almost three years and here is my impressions.

CHEAP!  this is got to be one of the lowest cost of living cities in the country.  Long time residents think they have high taxes. hah , move to IL and watch your property taxes double or triple. but we get what we pay for.

A little behind... no public transportation, poor sewer system for example and often very resistant to change(especially if it means paying for it) many burbs have very poor city services available.

I still can't figure out the whole township form of government - seems like another unncessary layer of gov.

Pretty good all in all.  Reasonable cost, there is a lot to do,museums, especially if you like sports.  Good shopping as far as I am concerned.  Good outdoor recreation too.  I don't know where the previous poster was that has never felt more unsafe... give me a break.  Go to New Orleans and stumble off the beaten path.  As for Gary...everyone knows that is a dump.

  5. Woo! Indiana! though there are too many corn and soybean fields.........

  6. I think of it as a midwestern/rust belt state with lots of working class/blue collar people.  A shocking amount of poor, uneducated folks.

I drove through it once going cross country and never felt as in danger as I did when i was in Indianapolis and Gary, IN where I was unfortunately lost.

I would never want to live in Indiana. South Bend was charming, but otherwise, it was the pits.
