What does 2 graphics cards mean?

if i have 2 9600GT at 512mb each (SLI), does it mean i have 1GB of graphics power?

  1. You can use dual monitors instead of splitting one card.


  2. When a computer has 2 graphic card installed on it, the main purpose of that is to have a dual monitor. the extra graphic cards supports the additional monitor.

  4. Essentially, yes, you're gonna effectively have one huge graphics card. You also have the advantage of having double the amount of VGA ports etc.

  5. In a way yes but in some other ways no.

    Some applications/games wont need the whole 1 gig of graphics that are installed and one card will more or less act as a primary more than the other while the other will chip in when needed. You dont have a solid 1 gig of video working all the time. Its still better than one card though, kind of like dual cpu's.
