What does DivX mean?

I first thought it had something to do with being compatible with R or RW dvds but now i just don't know

  1. divx is a codec. codec is a software that helps to compress video. i left you a link to a better explination from wiki.


  2. DivX is a media player and a video Codec. It has nothing to do with DVD's. If you tried to put DivX video on a DVD it wouldn't play in an ordinary DVD player.
