  1. Intensive therapy unit.

  2. Intensive Therapy Unit otherwise  known as Intensive Care Unit,(I.T.U.).

  3. Hello,

(ANS) ITU stands for Intensive Care Unit, also sometimes called Intensive Therapy Unit too.

    NOTE:-

ITU in a hospital will look after & care for patients after major surgery for example. This is when x2 or more major bodily or life systems require treatment at the same time, when no other departments in the hospital have the skills or resources to care for that person.

In ITU a patient will receive treatment from a team of specialist doctors most of those people are consultant Anesthetists or doctors trained in critical care medicine.

ITU will care for patients such as: Liver Transplant, Kidney transplant, Major trauma cases, Paracetamol overdose cases, patients in the end stages of cancer when the tumors are not operable. Rare & highly infectious diseases.

In ITU one nurse to one patient 24/7, patients are often supported on life support machine such as ventilators, automated drug delivery systems, etc.
