  1. it breaks the circuit when the voltage gets too high to prevent an overload


  2. I see circuit breaker as a newer and more convenient version of "fuse." Both are designed to interrupt electric current when there is danger of overheating and thus electrical fires. Whereas the fuse is destroyed in one use because the thin wire is burned up, the circuit breaker mechanically throws a switch which can be "turned on" again when the load is restored to safe limits.

  3. when you have a circuit with electricity constantly running through it there is always a risk of overloading, which can cause serious trouble. With circuit breakers, if the amount of electricity going through the circuit is greater than what it can handle it cuts, or "breaks" the "Circuit".
