  1. Highly intelligent is above the average intelligence of people in your area, nationality or just in the world. IQ is one measure, but its reliability has been contested.

  2. this means more intelligent then normal peoples intelligence!

  3. Well, it is generally used to mean someone whose cognitive abilities help them score more than the vast majority of their same age peers in certain standardized tests. The theory goes, such a person is more intelligent than most other people.

However, we're usually just talking about people whose strengths are in verbal intelligence and logic, not people who are smart about getting along with other people, musically talented, or good dancers, for instance. Some of us, who actualy do score well in tests of mathematical and verbal ability, believe that interpersonal intelligence is much more important.

  4. Can answer questions accurately without seeking reference. Can retain knowledge for future reference.  Some can be genius but have no normal sense. Best are real people who can be knowledgeable AND personable.

  5. i don't think there is such a thing as "as intelligent a human can be."

highly intelligent means that a person is not a genius, nor near genius - just very, very smart. smarter than average.
