  1. It WAS a way of adding extra applications to the ipod by alterinng its boot code or opertaing system so you could install unapproved add-ons. however installing it often created problems and often the unit would die and NOT be covered by warranty.

Then apple released the 2.0 iphone softwware that HAD add-onapplications and made jailbreaking redundant but some people still like to tinker and so still jailbreak the 2.0 software but it serves little purpose as many free addons are aviable thorugh itunes store.

Personally I'd NEVER JAILBREAK and iPhone or iPod Touch as it stands a very big change of causing problems and adds nothing to it.

Legally speaking a jailbroken ipod or iphone is not an apple product and has no warranty as its not running the inbuilt app data.

would you tinker with the operating system of your mobile or MP£ player to add nothing but just to say that you have then find its unrelaible and dies on you (sometimes permanently)

  2. to hack it so you can get loads of other features on it!

  3. Jailbreaking means pirating the OS of the ipod. You will erase the original software and download a pirated one so that you can put a lot of illegal stuff onto it! However i dont recommend it as in case anything happens to your pod after jailbreaking your warranty will not be taken into consideration. You will have to pay to get it serviced. And sometimes jailbreaks arent succesfull. They may hang in between and leave you nowhere.

  4. its a program that runs on an ipod touch and it gives you lots of programs to download
