    affective disruption.This strange negotiation of otherness, and the Husserlian heritage of an irreducible

    ‘self’ together imply that there is a minimal subjective leaning in Levinas as he develops

    his ontology–in deliberate contrast to the ontology of Heidegger. And, as we will see, transcendence

    proves to be an enigma in Levinas.
