What does professionally graded mean???

can someone tell me what this means for baseball cards?

it eans the card ha been examined by an expert.  they look at several different aspects of the card, including corners, centering, picture quality and overall quality of the card.  they give the card a grade between 1-10.   the card is then sealed in a plastc toploader w/ the grade(broken down by categories) and the name of the grading company
