  1. When I googled this word, I found (http://www.equinehits.com/horse-pedigree... a list of horses sharing this lineage in several breeds - Oldenburg, Hanoverian, Holsteiner.

A stable in Georgia also has these blood lines in their program (http://www.falconridgestables.com/Breedi... in which they appear to be breeding Hanoverians from imported German stock.

There are also about 15,198 other results showing this name in the breeding. So though I can't say conclusively, I would have to guess this is an old German warmblood breeding line, descending from a stallion with that name in one of the stud books. But since it's showing in Hanoverian, Oldenburg, and Holsteiner lines, it's hard to guess which stud book.

  2. I believe it's a Hanoverian bloodline.  Since that stud was famous, people keep putting his name into the names of his offspring.  Like they do with other famous sires (e.g. Doc Bar, Poco, Hancock...you hear those names a lot.  Same thing).

  3. this means that all the horses came from the same family pedigree. maybe there was one stallion with "haupstutbuch" in his name. all of his offspring would have that "pedigree name" before their individual name, because the horses sell better if the buyers know that they are the children of this magnificent "haupstutbuch". for example, there's one mare that i know of that has probably 5 different words in her pedigree name. she's gotten old, and everyone just calls her Piggy.

p.s. it sounds like some sort of german or dutch name, so chances are, the line began in that area. also, it IS NOT the scientific name. the scientific name for ANY HORSE is EQUUS CABALLUS.

  4. hauptstutbuch is just the type of horse it is...life its genetic or scientific name.
