In the US, we hear politicians say the word "liberty" a lot; the word is even in our Declaration of Independence. But what does it really mean?

  1. Freedom to do what you please (as long as you don't harm others, it's all good). Synonimous with having the ability to "persue happiness"

  2. It means giving people the opportunity to express themselves and pursue happiness as long as they don't break the law.  Freedom to pursue liberty for all is the law of the land.

Make sure the government doesn't take this away.  It's so important.

  3. "Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual."

    ~Thomas Jefferson

  4. Freedom

  5. I see you've been trained by NEA teachers to have to ask such a question.  I'll just explain it like this, the emergence from the dark ages and the age of enlightenment are wasted on people like you.
