for the corporations - when their merchandizers run out of ideas to inject new ideas into their products and sales.   many such companies that have folded suffered from such a burnout when they stop innovating.  when they make a certain amount of profit, they tend to rest on their laurel and forget the demands of the shoppers esp younger generation whose needs r diff and keep changing with times.
