I have a 1986 mercury cougar and it only has a stock 3.8 V6. Everything on the car is next to mint but i want to put a kick *** engine in it and a better transmission cuz stock is only a 3 speed auto, and i would also like to replace the rear end because it isn't a possy.

My question is what kind of engine and/or tranny should I put into it that will make it kick some *** and make the chicks wet!? lol. Thanks to all the answers!!!

  1. because of the year, you  are limited to what was produced that production year. in California you will still need to go through a smog check biannually.

  2. Look for the same year Cougar or T-bird with a 5.0 and swap it out.  Lots of go fast parts available for the 5.0.  Or look for a T-Bird Super Coupe and get the supercharged V6 to drop in. Lots of work ahead of you.

  3. A little electric one like the ones they use in vibrators.

  4. Put anything you want so long as you ditch the 3.8

Try the 5.0 and T-5 if you want, but be ready to do some work. and you need to replace the rear end, as well as a good bit of other work changing from auto to manual.

  5. put a 351 ford engine in it put a 9 inch ford rear end in it put a good 5 speed standard in it and shell be rockin!! jsut ditch that 3.8 theyre garbage
