  1. dont forget your Ka PROBALLY has 100,000 miles an SR outta japan would come with 30-45 miles... one of the main reasons im building my SR up

  2. The KA doesn't have high-boost compatible pistons, or piston oil squirters to help cope with the higher combustion chamber pressures involed with turbocharging.

A straight swap to a S15 187 kW turbo engine (Japan spec) and an S14 5 speed manual gearbox will make your car significantly faster straight away. Then if you want to go quicker, the SR has one of the biggest aftermarket and performance parts ranges in the world. It's a tough engine that can be tuned with the stock turbo to put out 350 horsepower at the flywheel.

With aftermarket stroker kits, big turbos and suitable ancillaries, there have been drag racing engines in Japan and the U.S. putting out over 1000 hp.

The KA is not suited to aftermarket modification, as there is little support and available parts, and the block is weaker.

I drive an SR20DET powered car, and it's just awesome. Having said that, I do plan to eventually swap it and the gearbox out for a 2JZGTE and Getrag gearbox. I will also swap the standard viscous R180 diff for an R34 active LSD R200 diff - I just need a few thousand more...

  3. Turbo the stock engine. The only reason the SR20DET is faster than a KA24DE is it's got factory turbos.

An SR20 with no turbo gets 140 at most unless it has Variable Valve Timing which brings it up to 165hp which is still only slightly more than the naturally aspirated KA24DE. Nissan's Variable Valve Timing had problems (the VTCs "clack" and can lead to other more serious problems) on the 92-94 Nissan Maxima SE, I believe it had problems on the 300ZX and I'd expect that any engine with a similar system by Nissan would have the same problems.

The stock SR20DET turbos can't make more than around 250hp and if you pick your own turbos for a KA24DE you can get the same sized ones with around the same horsepower or bigger ones that can make even more.
