What eternity ring??

hi. i'm sort of clueless with rings...especially a eternity ring!

i would like to know...

1. what an eternity ring is for?

2. and who gives it to whom?

they used to be given at a landmark anniversary such as your 25th but now the push is on by the industry to get more bling on that woman's finger faster.  

its not a necessity and more often than not its more of an accessory to show off with than anything else.  sorry..................i know my answer will be unpopular as most people seem to think that they deserve more gold and more diamonds and more of everything.
