What exactly is Implantation?

I think I may be having Implantation today. I am supposed to start period on Aug 11th, and today I have very bad cramps, like period type. What exactly is happening during Implantation?

Implantation is when the fertilized egg is attatched to the lining of your uterus. It can sometimes cause cramping and spotting. Sometimes it's hard to tell if it's implantation or your period coming. Hope this helps :)
