  1. To accept people like they are, to tolerate their opinions, not to expect something to do, not to force someone to do something, to act like I want others to act towards me.

  2. This means to display respect for other people's beliefs or lifestyles which may be different from your own. Or, it can mean that you use your own ethics (your personal code of behavior) to act in an upstanding manner towards others.

For example, not making fun of a handicapped person, or muslims, or Republicans, because for all you know they may be one, and also because you are trying not to be the kind of person who hurts others.

  3. The first two responses do a good job of talking about what ethical considerations are in general...if your looking for something more sociology specific there are some distinctions.

In the discipline of sociology a lot of times ethical considerations are brought up as a discussion of the methods people use to obtain their research. While obviously people want to learn as much as possible and answer the questions they lay out during their research design, some methods are less ethically responsible than others.

A famous example is the miligram experiment, performed by Stanley miligram. In order to understand why people could obey in the face of an act that they understood was wrong, he set up an experiment to try and study peoples reactions to orders in somewhat tense situations.

While his findings were impressive, a lot of people questioned the methods that he used and some of the difficulties people had with understanding their experience as part of the experiment. By not taking into account some of the issues or "ethical considerations" of his experiment, miligram is forever taught in sociology courses as an example of what can go wrong if you dont think everything through.
