What exactly is tution money?

I maybe want to study in the U.S., but I always find so called tution fees. is it like a school fee you have to pay?

There are a bunch of different fees, but tuition is the money you pay to take classes. How much tuition you pay is determined by how many hours you are taking.  For example tuition is $150/credit hour

one class is 3 credit hours = $ 450 per class,

full time = 12 credits = $1,800

plus there are lab fees for those classes and tons of other fees so the overall cost of my education was around $4,000 a semester just for school

Just for your information, you will be paying out-of-state tuition fees.

Tuition fees are just what they say, fees for your tuition - this is the money you pay just to take either a certain class, a certain number of credit hours or per semester - this will be stated on the universities' website.

For an example see the website below for the Community College of Denver.

1 credit hour equals $357.25. Now as an international student you will have to take a minimum of 12 credit hours per semester and as you can see this totals $4,287 per semester.

Now depending on the college or university there may or may not be other fees which you will have to pay on top of tuition fees. Again see the example of the website below.

At the Community College of Denver you have to pay COF, Bond, Clean Air, Resr, RTD and Reg fees in addition to tuition fees which brings the total, per semester (12 credit hours) to $4,519.15.

So make sure you check the website for your university to get the exact amount you have to pay per credit hour and then multiply that price by however many credit hours you will be taking but remember you must take at least 12 credit hours per semester as an international student.
