full autos are a federal ban across the country except if they are are grandfather law. ARs (assualt rifles) are also illegal unless grandfather law as well in CA. cant buy clips for rifles or pistols in CA. i heard some rumors bout the muzzle that it cant be certain ones but those are rumors that could be true. shotguns have to have a 16" barrel and can only have for shell in the mag(or tube). pistols can only have ten round clips.

Actually I believe semi-automatic "assault rifles" are legal but magazines over 10 rounds are illegal. I wonder how much 30 round magazines go for in cali...?

For handguns you need to check the California DOJ website, the list currently contains 1,341 handguns.  There are restrictions placed on semi-automatic firearms concerning magazine capacity and physical characteristics, the details are much too extensive to be listed here.  The DOJ website also contains a link to the "Dangerous Weapons Control Laws, that cover a lot of things including the so-called "Assault Weapon" restrictions.  There is no list of approved long guns, just descriptions of what is legal and what is not.  Good Luck.

Fully automatic weapons are banned after the incident in North Hollywood bank robbery a few years ago.
