What happend at the 2004 olympics?

i heared something happend during the mens running and now they have to have the crowd away from the runners. what happend?

Yeah it was a Brazilan runner, he was leading the league in marathon only 5km to the finish line, then a guy came out and pushed him into the crowd, he was distracted and wasted some time to get up and go back to race.He lost the lead and  finished 3rd, IOC gave him a special award because if not for that idiot he would have won the gold medal. And thats why crowd are not allowed to be close to runners in Beijing.

I watched it on tv when it happened four years ago. In the marathon, one of the runners, Vanderlei de Lima, was running alongside the crowd and was in the lead I believe when a guy named Cornelius Horan came out of the crowd in a flash, in a skirt nonetheless, and basically tackled him. He was arrested immediately and had a history of disrupting races. It affected Lima's concentration for the rest of the race and I'm not sure if he even medaled.
