I'm taking music next year, but music isn't really my thing. But I'd like to learn an instrument so maybe it will be my thing. Anyways I like bigger instruments, not dinky little flutes/clarinets. So could you guys give me some suggestions and tell me a little bit about each instrument. If you could that would be very helpful. I've kinda wanted to play drums but I'm too nervous to actually try to get drums. So I was thinking maybe Sax. or Trumpet but I don't know of many instruements so I'd like to learn about some others.

  1. If you'd like a bigger instrument, but aren't a real big person, I'd suggest alto sax or maybe alto clarinet. alto clarinet has a wide range of notes but isn't really big or small. If you want to be really daring, try tenor sax. it has a shorter, lower range than the other two instruments but still sounds  way cool =]

OR!! You can go the strings way and play viola! viola kinda gets the crappy parts though, so don't pick it up if you like to play the melody.

  2. I play the baritone/euphonium. Smaller than a tuba but bigger than a trumpet. It makes the sound a trombone makes but its a bit more mellow sounding, and you don't have to fool with the slide. Its really pretty when you play with good tone. Its my favorite instrument ever lol.

  3. Tenor Sax, not dinky, smooth sounding, and very useful in Jazz band

Bass Clarinet, not dinky, smooth sounding but when it squeaks its dreadful, useful in concert, jazz, and even ( god forbid) marching band

Drums- Easiest music reading ( I am on drumline), needs much less precision than wind, its fatal draw-back is that in Marching band your shoulders will be cracking under drum harness's and your legs will wear out from the heavy weight drums,( you need to be in atleast fair shape to do this.)
