1080p is the highest resolution of High Definition.

"p" stands for "Progressive Scan" which means images are not interlaced. Interlace is a technique to improve picture quality by removing flicker. That means he video at 1080p will be stable and there will be no bar,noise and it will be true to life.

1080 refers 1080 lines of vertical resolution

There is big difference between 1080i and 1080p. 1080 i also has 1080 lines of vertical resolution but image are interlaced. "i" stands for "interlaced" means flickers are not removed.

So in practice 720p is better than 1080i.

1080p is the highest resolution in HD. It is available in almost all TVs but there are Blu-RAy Discs you can buy to get full HD. 1080p is the number of pixels in HDTVs. If you don't have HDTV, you have 480i, Standerd TV.

The "p" refers to progressive scan which means how those 1080 lines a refreshed with the image. fyi - Broadcasted television stations only are capable of 1080i.
