We're all familiar with the term 'sea level', but are all seas at the same level, and if so, why? If not, how is sea level determined?

  1. Sea level is also known as L.A.T. which stands for Line of Average Tide. Tides are not the same all year round, or in every place, so the average of tidal heights is used.

  2. dont know really, but its a rising issue

  3. I don't think seas have to all be at the same level, but the oceans are... cos they're joined so the water will spread out evenly - think of it like a fish tank.. if there's sand in higher parts of the tank or if there's toys etc. the water at the surface will always be level! and it's just that on a bigger scale...

  4. when my girlfriend is on top of me, riding me on my waterbed

  5. As you know the level of the sea around our coasts rises and falls with the tide, wind, etc. So determining the sea level for a country is not as simple as just taking one reading, or even a few. The process involves taking a number of readings at various places at various times and then working out the one to use for a particular place.

  6. It is when the land is the same level as the sea around it.

  7. It is a standardised level - sea level is 0 meters & the land hieght is calculated from that point "unlike a fish tank - the Earth is round & the gravatation pull of our moon on oceans create the eb & flow of the tide. Some landlocked sea's are below "sea level"
