  1. ghee. everyone here has given great answers and there is nomore I can add except : have a good one////

  2. enviroment - drought ridden, although that seems to be breaking

weather - see above, but it got to minus 1 last night

people - Mostly good.  You get good and bad everywhere

animals - unique and known the world over

  3. Australia rocks!

Environment and weather - variable. If you go up north or central its hot and humid, dry and general dusty from the drought. Sydney has been pretty wet recently, Brissy is hot as always. Tasmania is green and wet and cold. There are plenty of rainforests. Western Australia is resonabl;y hot but Perth is beautiful. Its winter now so its getting cold, my home town is freezing and frosty (Northern tablelands NSW). The weather is always variable depending on where you are.

People - mostly friendly. People always say we are really laid back and friendly but remember, as with every country there are a few nasty ones. N.B not everyone is sun tanned with bleach blonde hair and surfs, says G'day - in fact I don't know anyone who does, named sheila.

Animals - the wildlife is abundant. Kangaroos are absolutely everywhere - in the countryside of course and we dont ride around on them. You are sure to see one. Koala's,crocodiles, possums, echidnas, lizards, kookaburras, and snakes are fairly abundant depending on the time of year but they mostly keep to themselves unless you stay out in the country for a while (or go to a zoo!).

So yes! Australia is fantastic, by all means come and visit!

  4. The country is a big one, so the answer varies quite alot depending on exactly where in Australia you mean. Generally, it's a warmer country than most, with none of the big cities getting snow in winter etc. (Though there are a couple with incredidbly rare exceptions). 22 million people in a country the size of the continental USA, but almost all the population lives within a short drive of the ocean.

  5. Clean, safe, modern and friendly. Weather depends on where you are, we have most weather types but it's mostly mild to hot. Most of the country is surrounded by beautiful beaches.

Birds, reptiles and insects are seen in large numbers. Mammals (marsupials) are common but shy and noctunal and therefore not seen very often.

We use metric measurements only, no tipping, no guns, drive on the left, not terribly religious, and very multicultural.

  6. Hi,

I studied there as an undergraduate and completey left my heart then when I had to leave (kicking and screaming).

    Australia is simply wonderful. Wonderful!!

I lived in Brisbane and found it to be full of very friendly people, incredibly clean to have over 2 million residents, lots of nice parks, lovely river, good transportation. The weather in Brisbane was nice, too-I believe that it is considered to be a subtropical area.

We did a lot of travelling while there-went to some of the Great Barrier Reef Islands (completely worth everything you have to do or pay to get there), Stradbroke Island (also worth everything you have to do or pay to get there), and Sydney (nice, but definitely had more of an edge than Brisbane).

Every American whom I have met who has lived in Australia says basically the same thing, "Sometimes I wish we hadn't thrown off the king-because it would be mighty nice to be able to live and work there!"

Oh, the animals are much fun, too! Went camping once and when we got out of our tent, kangaroos were lounging all over just like squirrels run amock here in NC. Wallabies are adorable, the bats unbelievablely huge, and their possums are nothing like our nasty ones.
